Destin Vacation Rentals & Beaches OPEN!

Destin Vacation Rentals & Beaches NOW OPEN!

Destin Beaches and Vacation Rentals Now Open

Yes, the rumors are true, beaches as well as the vacation rentals in Destin, FL are OPEN! We are just as excited as you are to hear that wonderful news. It seems like one more step closer to our new “normal”. They are open with social distancing practices still in place. The only activities prohibited at this moment is groups of more than 10 and must remain 6ft apart.

While you are staying with us, it is important to know what may or may not be open as well as to what capacity they are serving customers. Currently, we are in “Full Phase 1” which consists of:

  • Restaurants and food establishments to serve patrons at indoor seating up to 50% of the establishment’s seating capacity.
  • Excluding employees; in-store retail sales establishments to operate up to 50% of the building’s occupancy.
  • Museums and libraries to operate at 50% of the building’s occupancy
  • Gyms and fitness centers to operate up to 50% of the building’s occupancy with social distancing measures in effect for classes and sufficient sanitation supplies provided for a patron’s self-cleaning of surfaces and machines following each use.

If you would like more information on “Full Phase One”, you may visit: http://www.myfloridalicense.com/DBPR/emergency/

Even though beaches and vacation rentals are open in Destin, FL area (this includes Okaloosa County and Walton County), there are some guidelines we do have to follow to obey the state as well as the county’s ordinances. If you are looking to book a vacation rental in Walton County, all visitors are expected to follow Florida Executive orders 20-86 and orders 20-82, and individuals and rental agencies will refrain from accepting reservations from COVID 19 hot spots including the declared by the Governors orders for the following states; NY, NJ, CT, and LA, for the next 45 days (expected to lift July 3rd, 2020).  If you are looking to book a vacation rental in Okaloosa County, reservations from areas identified by Governor DeSantis as high risk, through Executive Orders (currently EO 20-82 New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and EO 20-86 Louisiana) must be for periods longer than the quarantine period (14 days) established in that Order by the Governor. Guests occupying those vacation rentals must adhere to the quarantine restrictions or be subject to established criminal and civil penalties.

While all this may seem confusing at the moment, we are making sure to keep all our guests up to date the best we can to make finding a vacation rental in Destin, FL a little easier.

Since vacation rentals in Destin, FL are open we are accepting new reservations to kick off this Summer and we can’t wait to have everyone back! When you book a stay with Destin Palms Vacations, you will receive FREE passes to activities in the area like deep-sea fishing, dolphin cruises, golf, and more EVERY DAY of your stay! 34th Annual Sandestin Wine Festival | Grand Tasting

Sandestin Wine Festival

One of the most famous local wine festivals in Destin, FL is the Sandestin Wine Festival!

The main events, know as their Grand Wine Tastings, showcase more than 500+ domestic and international wines over a two-day span. Guests can enjoy the opportunity to talk to vineyard owners and winemakers about their favorite appellations, or maybe try something new. During the Grand Wine Tastings, guests are also treated to a gourmet experience courtesy of some of the best chefs on the Emerald Coast. Savor South Walton tents are sprinkled within the festival to allow guests to pair delectable bite-sized appetizers with their current glass selection. And, a festival favorite, their Champagne tent, returns to the Grand Sandestin Lawn, featuring bubbles and desserts galore. Local and regional music also set the vibe for fun days of discovery.

The Sandestin Wine Festival is the most established and continuously running wine festival on the Emerald Coast and has affectionately been called the “Kentucky Derby of Wine Festivals” because of its popularity and grandeur.

The Village of Baytowne Wharf is always open to the public. Even during special events, guests are welcome to visit the shops and merchants. Non-drinking festival guests are welcome to attend the Grand Wine Tasting with their friends at no charge–they will not receive a wristband or tasting glass for wine or food. Our Beaches and the Welcoming Atmosphere

Destin Beaches

Destin, FL has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Our sand feels like baby powder and the water is crystal clear. While Destin, FL is a great place to let loose and enjoy yourself, Okaloosa and Walton County make certain the areas and beaches stay safe and secure for travelers and locals. The surrounding counties have an absolute no tolerance for underage drinking and will arrest those who test the boundaries. This is to make sure that EVERYONE is having a good time while keeping tourists and residents safe. There is also no tolerance for littering as well as glass bottles on the beaches. This is to make sure our gorgeous white sand beaches stay clean and safe for our wildlife as well as those visiting the beaches. Spring Break in Destin, FL is great for all ages and families of all sizes. Everyone will be able to find something to do as well as enjoy their vacation here.

Attractions

City of Destin

What makes Spring Break in Destin, FL so grand and unforgettable is our attractions! From the infamous Crab Island sand bar to the HarborWalk with endless entertainment and food.  See Destin, FL is just more than its gorgeous beaches but also a great selection of activities for everyone in the family.

Crab Island

Crab Island

You can’t have a complete Spring Break in Destin, FL experience until you see Crab Island! It is a sandbar that is located just South of the Marler Bridge in Destin, FL. Crab Island started to gain in popularity as boaters used the area to anchor their boats to catch some rays and wade on the sandbar. Now Crab Island has erupted into a popular social scene where locals and tourists congregate for fun and sun. Crab Island is just minutes from Destin Harbor. Anyone who has been to Crab Island has seen the vast array of marine life. From dolphins to sea birds, friendly animal encounters at Crab Island in Destin, FL, are commonplace. So, why is it called Crab Island? Before a hurricane covered the once tiny island in emerald waters, Crab Island was a small plot of land shaped like… you guessed it… a CRAB! Along with the thousands of tiny crabs found on the floor of the sandbar, it’s easy to see why it is called Crab Island!

The Jetties

The jetties

If you want a truly tropical experience right here in the Florida Panhandle, then we highly recommend you check out the man-made Jetties right at the O’Steen beach access. These Jetties act as an artificial reef full of different colorful fish, crab, turtles, and you may see some dolphins playing. There are also some shallow pools located along the shore which makes it perfect for children to play in. This particular attraction is beautiful during high tide.

#BookDirect Top 10!

We are so dedicated to educating our guests, we were actually named in Intel Magazine as one of the Top 10 social media accounts in the nation advocating for the movement. This is something we are proud of because like stated before, we want to give our guests a wonderful vacation experience at the best value possible.

The Meaning Behind #BookDirect

#bookdirect

This movement was put together by Amy Hinote at VRM Intel. Its purpose is to educate guests about the perks of “bypassing third-party channels to book directly with management companies and homeowners”.

Not only are vacation rental owners facing the same issues regarding the often high commissions set by listing sites, but also guests themselves frequently end up paying a lot more for the same stay. Most guests often do not realize the high and unnecessary fees third party booking sites, such as VRBO, may charge. This is why the #BookDirect movement may be more important than people realize. As consumers, you have a lot more power than you realize and that’s why we find it necessary to educate and inform all of our customers on how they can get the most value.

Get All The Perks You Can Get!

All The Fun Without The Hustle & Bustle

Reasons why Fall is a great time to visit the beach- No crowds

Another reason why Fall is a great time to visit the beach is that you basically get the beach to yourself! You do not have to worry about getting up at the crack of dawn to get the prime spot right at the water. You will get to enjoy the beautiful water and soft sand without worrying about the disruptions around you. Also, in Destin, a lot of our most popular restaurants stay open all year round.  Your family and friends will be able to enjoy fresh seafood from the Gulf without the wait.

If you have ever been to Destin in the Summer then you know traffic can be a major annoyance. Destin is not a large area but yet is so beautiful so who doesn’t want to visit when they have a chance? But in the Fall you do not have to worry about that as much either. You will be able to come and go as you please, instead of strategically planning your trips out and about.

Festivals!

Here in Destin, we have several festivals you can attend in the Fall. The Destin Seafood Festival and The Destin Fishing Rodeo are the most popular ones and are hosted in the month of October. We go into further detail about these two events in another blog and the link is posted below.

Top 5 Restaurants That Locals Love!

Top 5 Restaurants That Locals Love!

The most common question that is asked when people arrive at Destin is: “Where should we eat?” Of course, some people want to indulge in some fresh seafood, but others may want affordability and variety. If you are a true foodie, then you want a meal that is also an experience and provides quality. Below are listed some top five favorites that will show off some of the greatest of local dining.

Destin Dining Top 5 Local Dinings

AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar (Located on the Harbor)

AJ's Local Dining on the Destin Harbor

AJ’s has four locations and we are lucky enough to have one right here in Destin. The address for this restaurant is 116 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541. That’s right, it’s located right on the Destin Harbor! Dinner with a view is what many crave. During the summer you can watch some of the most beautiful sunsets around 7:30 PM. AJ’s has been a Destin favorite for local dining for a while because they have been around since 1984. Since then they have expanded their menus to fit a larger crowd and appease their customers. Their menu ranges from Oyster Rockefeller to a nice sirloin, or if you are not a big “meat-eater”, then a nice bowl of French onion soup sounds delicious. Their hours are Monday-Friday 11AM-12AM, Saturday 10:30 AM-2:30 AM, and Sunday 10AM-12AM. Since they are open late, this may be perfect after a night out.

BoShamps

BoShamps Local Dining in Destin

If you’re willing to spend a little extra for some truly unique and yummy dishes in Destin, then BoShamps is the place to go. Their name comes from the combined names of the owner’s three labs. If you’re an animal lover, then you can relate. BoShamps started in 1985 as a “white tablecloth” restaurant but tamed down some of the fine dining element and made it a little more laid back for the beach life and to match the true meaning of local dining. Some of their appetizers and entrees are definitely original, and maybe a little pricey, but worth it! Some of the menu consists of “Puttin’ On the Grits”, an appetizer with roast garlic, Spanish mahon cheese grit cakes, sautéed Gulf shrimp and jumbo lump crab, mild habanero butter (YUM!). Another item they have is “Cornmeal Dusted Gulf Grouper Pecan”, an entree with balsamic grilled local vegetables, mashed red early potatoes, Worcestershire pecans, sauce meuniere. Those meals are just previews to what this restaurant offers. Fun fact: they also clean and butcher all their fresh fish right there in the building.

Boshamps is located at 414 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541 and their hours are seven days a week from 11 AM to 9 PM.

Pepitos Mexican Restaurant

Pepito's Local Dining Located in Destin

When people come to visit the beach and think of Destin dining, eating at a Mexican restaurant probably does not usually come to mind. Pepitos is not like your usual small-town Mexican grill, they are truly unique and offer great quality at a great price. This place has meals that everyone in the family can enjoy. Are your kids’ picky eaters? Well, that’s okay because they offer hamburgers and even pasta! Their pasta is delicious and there is a lot of it.  Locals love it here because to be honest when you live you will get tired of seafood and seafood prices. If you want to eat dinner or lunch somewhere that you can get in and out, then Pepitos can surely do that. Their service is exceptional and efficient. Pepitos has two locations here in Destin:

36112 Emerald Coast Pkwy, Destin, FL 32541

757 Harbor Blvd #1, Destin, FL 32541.

Both locations hours are Sunday-Thursday 11 AM-10 PM and Friday-Saturday 11 AM-10:30 PM.

The Donut Hole Bakery Cafe

Don’t let that intimidate you though because not only is it worth the wait but the line goes crazy fast. The Donut Hole offers endless specials, a great variety, and pastries the size of your head. One of their popular deserts is their homemade key lime pie. They serve breakfast items, salads, and sandwiches. Their pimento cheese is to die for and they even put it on tater tots! An example of something they offer is a dish called “The Diet Plate” which consists of two large sausage biscuits covered in white gravy with a side of hash browns and eggs. Obviously, this is not what you would eat if you were on a keto diet, but it’s still delicious and worth all the calories. The Donut Hole is located at 635 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541and their hours are seven days a week from 6 AM-10 PM. They are open late just in case you get that late-night sweet tooth.
