One thing you will definitely want to do while you are in Destin is enjoy fresh Gulf seafood at some of our amazing restaurants. This area attracts some of the best chefs from all around the world who are eager to work with the abundance of fresh ingredients (and live in paradise while they are doing it). We hope you are our guest long enough to try it all, but here are a few of our “must try” seafood favorites.
Oysters! Try a dozen raw oysters freshly shucked and served with cocktail sauce and horseradish. Of course, raw oysters are not everyone’s cup of tea, but you can get them prepared a lot of other ways, including Rockefeller, buffalo, Cajun, and more! If you are adventurous (and over 21), try an oyster shot which is a shot of vodka with hot sauce and a freshly shucked oyster!
Go with the Cajun! You will see a lot of Cajun specialties on the menus down here and you won’t be disappointed if you try some. Seafood po’boys, jambalaya, and gumbo are just a few of the delicious options you will want to give a go while you are in Destin. Wash it down with a local craft beer and cheers to the Gulf Coast!
If you like sushi, get ready to be WOWED! The fresh seafood of the Gulf of Mexico allows the sushi chefs in Destin to create some of the freshest and tastiest sushi you will ever have. Some local places even serve their sushi with a FishTrax flag that tells you where and when the fish was caught! Cool huh?
Pro Tip: Many restaurants offer a “hook and cook” service so you can bring in your freshly caught fish and they will cook it any way you like!

The Gulf Coast offers miles of beautiful beaches where you can relax on the sugar white sand, fish the bountiful waters, swim, ride jet skis, and more! We are sure you will have a wonderful vacation in Destin and want you to have fun and be safe. Here are a few Destin beach tips to make sure your vacation is awesome!
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! You have heard it before, but you really can’t hear it enough – wear sunscreen! It’s a good idea for everyone to put on a good layer of sunscreen before you leave your house. Once you are in the sun or on the beach, sweat, sand, and water can keep the sunscreen from sticking to the skin. Put on a layer before you leave and reapply later. Also, don’t forget to get the tops of your feet, ears, and if you part your hair be sure to hit that with some sunscreen!
Stay hydrated! We all like to enjoy a cocktail or a beer on the beach, but be sure to drink plenty of water too. It gets hot and you don’t want to ruin your trip by getting overheated. So, stock a cooler with beer and cocktails, but don’t forget plenty of water. Also, remember no glass on the beach, please 🙂
Check the flags. The beach has a flag system to warn you of the surf or any marine life in the water. Don’t ignore the flags and stay safe!
The most important tip: relax and have fun! If you are still looking for a condo or home in Destin, be sure to check out our incredible selection of vacation rentals!
Memorial day kicks off summer in style as we honor our veterans, celebrate America with our friends and family, and relax on the three day weekend. In Destin, it’s not surprising that many people’s weekend plans involve boating. With so many incredible places to cruise the shores, fish, snorkel, and just hang out, boating is the perfect way to spend the day on the Gulf Coast. If you are staying in a vacation rental in Destin and are renting a boat, here are a few safe boating tips to keep in mind. From everyone at Destin Palms, we hope you have a safe and happy Memorial Day!
Check the weather and then check it again. In Florida, the weather can change at the drop of a hat. Stay weather wise and make sure you don’t get stuck out in a storm.
Use common sense. A day on the boat should be fun, but be smart. Don’t do anything to jeopardize your safety.
Wear life jackets. Every boat is equipped with life jackets, use them, especially if you have children.
Avoid alcohol. Treat your boat just like a car and have a designated driver. Even if you aren’t driving – don’t overdo it!

One of the most unforgettable moment you will have in Destin is when you first see a pod of dolphins playing joyfully in their natural habitat along the Destin Harbor and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. A dolphin cruise is a fantastic way to go on a boat tour of the harbor and the captains know where the dolphins like to hang out! You can watch and take once in a lifetime pictures as dolphins play beside the boat! There are also sunset options, so you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the horizon as well! The water is warm enough and there are several companies that offer, training, equipment, and group tours. The waters of Destin are clear and gorgeous, and the captains now right where to take you! You can also choose to go SCUBA diving or SNUBA. SNUBA is a mix of SCUBA and snorkeling. You do where a breathing tank so you can go a bit deeper than snorkeling, but the tank is not attached to you and you don’t have to be certified. SNUBA is a great option for our more adventurous guests!
Dine on Fresh Gulf Seafood! There are several restaurants in Destin that offer Gulf to Table dining, so you know it’s fresh! Try a fried shrimp po’boy, gumbo, or succulent grilled grouper. Seafood in Destin is about as fresh as it gets! Also, if you decide to go fishing, some places offer a “Hook and Cook” service and will prepare your fish for you however you want! That means after a day on the water, you can enjoy a drink while a chef prepares your daily catch. Pretty cool, huh?
